Veil of Mystery
A record about feminine mystery and about giving oneself over to it. In order: infatuation, a love that wounds, closeness without words, a plea addressed to a God the writer does not believe in, desire, dissolving into another person, and the acceptance that she will never be fully understood.
“Digital Authenticity” repeats the verses of the opening “Mystery” and changes only the chorus — a motif that binds the record together. The closing track turns a hundred and eighty degrees: away from a mystery worth surrendering to, and into a world of screens where there is nothing to surrender to.
Tracklist
The title motif: an infatuation in which reason stops mattering.
Love as a poison, drunk knowingly.
A closeness in which words only get in the way.
A plea addressed to a God the writer does not believe in — and made anyway.
Desire named plainly, with a name in the chorus.
The same motif as “Mystery”, with a one-line chorus — the repetition that binds the record together.
The end of resisting: reason loses, and that turns out to be a relief.
Accepting that she will not be understood — and the calm that comes with it.
Hours of scrolling in search of an ideal — and a closeness that cannot be found on a screen.
