Dust Folk Anthem
The quietest record in the catalogue, and the only one without a single screamed chorus: acoustic guitar, piano, flute. Its subject is closeness — understanding without words, a father’s love for his child, a bond both spiritual and physical, the calm of being beside another person.
“Two Hearts” and “Two Bodies” are a deliberate pair: the same thing said twice, once in metaphor and once without it. The record closes with its only track that names names — his daughter, and Ann.
Tracklist
Understanding without words — the whole track holds to one image: two people keeping silent together.
A father’s love for his child, opened and closed by a whispered line.
The spiritual bond — the first half of a pair with “Two Bodies”.
The physical bond — the second half of the pair, the same picture without the metaphors.
Calm as the measure of love: it does not sweep him away, it quiets him.
The fear of parting said plainly — piano leads here instead of guitar.
The closing track, and the only one where names are spoken: his daughter, and Ann.
