Bound by Their Strength
The title reads both ways, and the record plays on that. The first six tracks are bound by their strength in the captive sense: other people’s expectations, other people’s silence, their lies, their power, his own guilt after walking away, and their verdict. From the seventh track the direction reverses and the same strength begins to hold him up — a kindred soul, the people closest to him as an anchor.
The ninth track is betrayal; the tenth is home, found anew rather than regained. They are the only two built with four verses, a screamed breakdown and a final chorus with greater power. The shortest chorus belongs to “Defy the Iron Crown”: a single line repeated like a shout, where every other track has two or four.
Tracklist
Chasing someone else’s approval: the closer the ideal, the less of himself is left.
Anger at indifference — not at opposition, but at the silence of those who will not listen.
A relationship held together by lies, and the decision to walk out of it.
The shortest chorus on the record and the sharpest: a refusal to obey someone else’s power.
Guilt after leaving, and the freedom that stayed beside it — for his child.
Running from someone else’s verdict: shame turned into speed.
The turning point of the record: their strength stops weighing him down and starts holding him up.
The closest people as an anchor: three different choruses, three ways of saying the same thank you.
Betrayal by those closest — the only track on the record with a screamed part.
The closing track: home not regained, but found anew.
